I would think kids today are thinking about their safety in America today. Everything on the news is riots, anger, fighting and anxiety. How can they come away with the feeling of comfort after watching the nightly news?
When you look online you see self promotion, fake stories and questionable beliefs. What are they to think? How do decipher information that is real? I really think kids today have to become more investigative and question everything they hear in order to have a clearer picture of the world that surrounds them.
Today more than ever kids have apps, websites and other information gathering tools that can lead to confusion. Parents, teachers can’t do it all, media moguls like Facebook and Twitter need to be on the lookout for fake and false theories that can lead to ingrained confusion.
FIRST IF YOU WORK WITH MIDDLE SCHOOL KIDS, YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND THEY ARE STRESSED OUT. MANY OF THE KIDS WON’T TURN THEIR CAMERAS ON AND MANY WON’T EVEN CHECK IN. TODAY KIDS HEAR “DISTANCE LEARNING DOES NOT WORK”, WHEN THEY HEAR THAT THEY IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN OR THINK IT’S OK TO NOT DO WELL ONLINE.
DISTANCE LEARNING IN CALIFORNIA IS, MOST LIKELY, THE SAME ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES. KIDS ARE NOT FULLY IN TUNE AND PAYING ATTENTION. KIDS ARE LAYING IN BED, EATING IN BED, PLAYING VIDEO GAMES AND OR CHATTING ALL THE WHILE. IT’S REALLY DIFFICULT TO GET THE KIDS ATTENTION WHEN THEY ARE TUNED OUT.
I ALWAYS ASK THE KIDS TO TUNE IN, TURN ON, DRESS APPROPRIATELY, SIT UP AND BE READY TO LEARN. SOME DO SOME DON’T. IT’S REALLY IMPORTANT THE KIDS ARE PRESENT. IF A STUDENT ISN’T PAYING ATTENTION OR GAMING, THEY WILL BE CONFUSED AND AGITATED. THEY WON’T BUY INTO THE CLASS AND THEY WILL STRUGGLE. THIS IS WHY IT’S EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO HAVE THE KIDS FOCUSED ON YOUR CLASS ONLY.
