Nordstrom (JWN ) is one of the strongest operators in the department store business, and perhaps even in retailing in general. High sales per square foot (more than $400, despite large stores), fast inventory turns (more than 5 times) and a focus on great fashion and customer service have afforded Nordstrom both profitability and growth.
